Myfyrwyr Daearyddiaeth yn Mynd â Dysgu yn yr Awyr Agored

Earlier this month, our Year 10 GCSE Geography students enjoyed a highly successful fieldwork visit to the Upper Conwy River Project at Rhyd-y-Creuau, Betws-y-Coed. The visit, delivered in partnership with the National Trust, provided students with an exciting opportunity to experience Geography beyond the classroom through practical, hands-on outdoor learning.

During the day, students explored the River Conwy and learned about the important work being carried out to restore and protect the river environment. They took part in real fieldwork activities, including collecting and identifying freshwater invertebrates, learning professional sampling techniques, and investigating how environmental monitoring helps scientists understand and improve river ecosystems.

The visit supported key curriculum topics at both GCSE and A Level while also helping students develop essential enquiry, observation, and teamwork skills. Students represented the school extremely well throughout the day, showing enthusiasm, curiosity, and excellent behaviour in sometimes cold and muddy conditions.

We are very grateful to the National Trust and the team at Rhyd-y-Creuau for hosting such an engaging and valuable learning experience, and we look forward to continuing to offer opportunities like this to support our students’ geographical understanding and love of the outdoors.
