Special Visitors Bring a Taste of Japan to Ysgol Aberconwy

Our Head Students, Jaz and Julia, recently had the privilege of accompanying Ms Hiromi Tanaka, Deputy Director for International Affairs in Himeji, Japan, and the Mayor of Conwy, Cllr Sian Grady, during their visit to Ysgol Aberconwy.

As part of the visit, Ms Tanaka spent the morning with Year 7 and Year 8 students, sharing fascinating insights into the city of Himeji and Japanese culture. Students enjoyed a hands-on origami workshop, where they learned how to create traditional Samurai helmets, and had the opportunity to dress in beautiful Japanese Yukata, a traditional garment often worn during festivals and special occasions.

The sessions provided a wonderful cultural experience, giving students the chance to learn more about Japan while developing an appreciation for its traditions and heritage. Ms Tanaka also highlighted the special twinning relationship between Himeji Castle and Conwy Castle, helping students understand the important cultural connections that exist between our communities.

The visit was both educational and enjoyable, and we would like to thank Ms Tanaka and Cllr Grady for taking the time to visit our school and inspiring our students through this memorable cultural exchange.
