In an increasingly interconnected world, mastering multiple languages has never been more important. Recognising this, Ysgol Aberconwy has taken significant steps to enhance students\u2019 international language skills through engaging events. These additional initiatives not only bolster linguistic abilities but also foster teamwork, creativity, and real-world application of language skills, making learning both fun and practical.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In December, we hosted a dynamic event for our Year 9 students titled \u201cGlastonbury Goes Global.\u201d This exciting challenge saw sixteen teams from six different schools across Conwy, Gwynedd, and Denbighshire competing in a range of tasks. Each team represented one of the languages they were learning: French, German, or Spanish. Aberconwy proudly fielded two teams\u2014one focused on German and the other on French. It was a rewarding experience for all participants, instilling a sense of pride and accomplishment as they navigated the challenges, and the judges were impressed by the talent and creativity displayed. We were delighted when Daniel Farley-Hills and Hari Morris won an award for their impressive German language video project, showcasing not just their language skills but also their ability to work cohesively as a team.<\/p>\n\n\n

February brought another opportunity for our students with a Year 10 event that shifted the focus towards practical applications of language skills in a business context. Ten teams from various schools across Anglesey, Gwynedd, and Conwy came together to tackle a series of real-life challenges involving purchasing goods on a budget and creating effective marketing materials. This competition demanded that students not only showcase their linguistic capabilities but also think strategically and creatively. Aberconwy again participated with both a French and a German team. The competition was fierce, but through diligence and ingenuity, Arwen Morris from our French team emerged victorious, earning a prize for her exemplary leadership throughout the challenge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jamie McAllister, Head of International Languages, emphasised the significance of these events, stating, \u201cThese are truly excellent examples of how much International Language events like these can add to our students\u2019 learning experience, and we\u2019re looking forward to participating in more. As we look to the future, it\u2019s clear that events like those organised by Business Language Champions<\/a> provide invaluable learning experiences. They not only challenge students to excel in their language studies but also prepare them to thrive in an increasingly globalised world.
