Our Year 12 Geography students swapped the classroom for the coast as they headed to Talacre Beach in North Wales for a morning of hands-on geographical fieldwork!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The aim of the trip was to investigate whether Talacre\u2019s sand dunes follow the classic theory of vegetation succession. According to this theory, as sand dunes develop and mature, vegetation generally becomes taller, denser and more diverse, from the earliest embryo dunes through to established grey dunes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Armed with their fieldwork equipment, students collected data across four transects, recording plant height, ground cover and the number of plant species at regular 10-metre intervals. They also investigated how human activity, particularly people walking along footpaths, might affect these delicate coastal habitats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The trip provided a fantastic opportunity to apply classroom learning to a real-world environment, develop practical geographical skills and explore the relationship between vegetation, coastal processes and human activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After collecting their data, the students returned to school ready to analyse their findings and evaluate whether the evidence supported the theory of succession at Talacre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A great morning of learning beyond the classroom, bringing Geography to life on the North Wales coast!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
