Welcome to our Open Evening for 2021.
Due to restrictions still in place due to the pandemic we have decided to do things a little differently this year. Instead of holding a one day event we are holding a series of events throughout September and October for year 6 students and their parents. Please see the poster below:
Please see the Live Events poster below to see information about the online events and how to join them.

Head Teacher’s Welcome
Ysgol Aberconwy has well established arrangements for identifying and providing for individual pupils’ additional learning needs. It is our policy to assess pupils’ needs as early as possible.
After careful diagnostic testing, pupils follow individually tailored programmes. Where pupils have needs which require the co-operation of outside agencies, it is the responsibility of the ALNCO to make the necessary contacts.
During all stages in the provision for a pupil’s additional learning needs, we seek to work closely with parents, and emphasise the importance of good working relationships between the school and home.
Ysgol Aberconwy supports and promotes the education of all children, including the specific needs of Looked After Children. The member of staff responsible for this area is Mrs Jessica Meredydd.
The school employs a team of teaching assistants that work on a 1:1 basis with individual pupils, small group work as well as providing intervention programmes.
The school houses the Conwy Centre for Dyslexia, ABCD. The teacher responsible for this area is Helen Samuel. Please contact the school for further information.
The school also houses ‘Tegfan‘ the County’s provision for pupils with ASD and neurodevelopmental difficulties. There are two teachers and a team of teaching assistants working in this area.
We have a specialist inclusion centre called ‘Y Ganolfan’ that is well resourced including sensory equipment and a state of the art acoustic POD as well as 1:1 support and group work. Pupils also have access to therapeutic support from a qualified counsellor.
Please note that the school is fully accessible for pupils with disabilities.
Please use the following link to see all school publications.
We know that you will have a lot of questions about starting at Ysgol Aberconwy. Normally we would come to visit you in your primary school to answer your questions, but that won’t be possible this year, so we’ve put together the answers to some of the most common questions we get asked.
If you have other questions, please email us at: OpenEvening@aberconwy.conwy.sch.uk. We will add any new questions and answers to this page as we get them, so check back to see them!
