The U13 Ysgol Aberconwy Girls Cricket team recently travelled to Sale Sports Club to represent North Wales in the Northwest Chance to Shine finals.
The girls played valiantly all day, facing very skilled opposition throughout. They managed to maintain their composure and spirit against some excellent competitors. One of the standout moments of the day came from Sofia, who delivered an impressive performance by achieving a hat-trick of wickets while bowling against Parrs Wood High School during the penultimate match.
The tournament results reflect the competitive nature of the day. Ysgol Aberconwy secured wins against both Ysgol Brynhyfryd and Parrs Wood High School, showcasing their ability to perform under pressure. Though they faced narrow defeats against Upton Hall and Bishop Rawstorne School, the girls never lost their determination. In their final match, they were pitted against the eventual tournament winners, Wilmslow High School, which provided them with the ultimate challenge to conclude their day of cricket.
The Ysgol Aberconwy team finished 4th overall in the tournament out of 6 schools. While the placement is a testament to the level of competition faced, it’s also indicative of the growth and potential within the team. This experience provided our players with invaluable lessons as they continue to develop their skills and prepare for future competitions. Here’s looking forward to more exciting matches and achievements in the future!
Special thanks to year 8 student, Charlotte who raised over £400 towards the cost of the journey to Manchester through a go-fund-me page and to Mr Roche for driving the minibus, ensuring all the players got there and back safely!
