There has been a recent wave of enthusiasm at Aberconwy, with the establishment of the Student Leadership Group (SLG). This dynamic group of students has been forging ahead with the mission to enhance student life and act as a significant voice for their peers. Among their initiatives, one project has particularly stood out: addressing the need for more water fountains around the school – something students have consistently raised as a priority.
The SLG wasted no time in collaborating with school staff to advocate for this project and drive it forward. Understanding the financial implications of installing new water fountains, the group took a proactive approach to securing funds necessary to turn their proposal into reality. Exhibiting ingenuity, creativity and a spirited approach, the SLG embarked on a fundraising campaign designed to engage the entire school community. They organised a penalty shootout, a bake sale and competition, and even convinced two senior members of staff to dye their hair in the most popular colour chosen by student votes – Pink won!
The bake competition was a particular highlight, with an array of mouth-watering cakes, muffins and cookies. Congratulations to Lexie from Year 7, who emerged as the bake-off champion, offering an impressive entry that wowed both judges and peers alike.
Through their collective effort and determination, and with the support of the whole school community, the SLG successfully raised a fantastic £144, a remarkable achievement that showcases their commitment to making a difference to their school environment! This funding will directly contribute to the installation of new water fountains around school, which we’re hopeful will be installed over the summer holidays, ready for use in the new term.
