On Wednesday 21st May, a group of 14 enthusiastic Year 7 boys from Aberconwy School took to the field in what would be a memorable experience at the Rygbi Gogledd Cymru (RGC) Super 12s regional tournament held at Eirias Park. For many of these young players, it was their first foray into a competitive rugby environment, and they did not disappoint, displaying commendable spirit and character throughout the event.
The boys faced several on-field battles that tested their skills and teamwork. Despite the challenges, the Aberconwy team demonstrated determination and resilience in every game and their never-give-up attitude was commendable. Although they did not progress to the regional finals, the lessons learned were invaluable. Each tackle, pass, and strategic play contributed to their growth as players and as a team.
The conduct of the boys was particularly noteworthy and they approached the tournament with a level of sportsmanship that reflected well on Aberconwy School, showcasing what it truly means to follow the “Aberconwy Way” in sports. Respect for their opponents, encouragement for each other, and maintaining a positive attitude, even in tough situations, were just a few of the qualities that stood out during the tournament.
Head of Physical Education, Mr Bennett said, “The future of rugby at Aberconwy looks promising, and the school community is proud of every one of the students that took part! Participating in events like the RGC Super 12s is so beneficial, the skills that students acquire through competitive play will only serve to enhance their abilities, setting them up for a bright sporting future.”
