When an alarm is deliberately set off during their GCSE drama exam, a group of students find themselves in detention. As they struggle to navigate the seemingly endless tasks they’ve been set as punishment, questions are raised. Who set off the alarm and why? Will they ever get out of this detention? Will it cost them their GCSE? And why is Shakespeare still so popular? So begins a meta deconstruction of the play as we move from classroom to theatre, artifice to reality. The performers switch between their characters and their real selves as they interrogate Shakespeare, the canon, the education system, the nature of theatre, and the world itself. They begin to wonder whether the classics really are that classic, or whether we might need to tell a different story altogether….

Disco diva Deloris’ life takes a surprising turn when she witnesses a murder. Placed under protective custody she is hidden in the one place she shouldn’t be found – a convent! Encouraged to help the struggling choir, she helps her fellow sisters find their true voices as she unexpectedly rediscovers her own.

This play considers how Dana, who has selective mutism, can survive in a world full of words when she can’t speak. Shout is a funny, moving play about anxiety, celebrating difference and finding a voice.

The film festival took place at TAPE studios and cinema over the weekend of 8th to 10th July and was a FREE event. Alongside the 5 films shown, there were community events taking place including a food bank drive, t-shirt decorating, penalty shootouts with a player from Colwyn Bay FC, and talks from the local food bank and Mind charity. We were extremely fortunate to secure exclusive Q&As for the students with Dave Johns (lead in I, Daniel Blake) and Matthew Warchus (the film Pride), who are gave up their time for free to get involved with the event.
Thursday 10th March 2022 – Cable Street
Cable Street is about two girls growing up in London’s Jewish east end in the 1930s. Leah and Kitty are blood sisters, best friends and more… but they get caught up in the political turmoil caused by Oswald Mosley’s fascist Blackshirts. At the iconic Battle of Cable Street in 1936, hundreds of thousands of working class people come together to fight the police to defend the Jewish East End from fascism. Kitty and Leah are torn apart politically, their love for each other ensnared, like a rabbit in a trap. As their passion and the political tensions grow stronger and stronger, pulling each of them every which way, the snare can only get tighter and tighter until something snaps.
This performance was dedicated to the people of Ukraine.

Step into a world of eerie legends and haunting landscapes, brought to life through powerful student storytelling. Inspired by historic tales from the Carneddau, this is a unique celebration of local folklore, creativity and culture – not to be missed!
Our Year 10 Creative Media students have been taking part in an exciting, real-world film project in collaboration with Wild Kindness Films, Partneriaeth Tirwedd y Carneddau (Carneddau Landscape Partnership), and supported by the Eryri National Park Authority. Over the course of 20 weeks, students have worked alongside industry professionals to create a collection of original short films inspired by the haunting Welsh folk tales of Calan Gaeaf (Winter’s Eve).
The Calan Gaeaf Film Showcase, took place on Wednesday 9th April at the Conwy Culture Centre, Conwy LL32 8NU.
