Children in Need: £20,000 Raised Over the Past 5 Years

It’s been a great year for fundraising, with the whole school community coming together to support our Children in Need appeal. This year, we raised a final total of £3,098. This means that over the past five years, Ysgol Aberconwy has raised more than £20,000 for Children in Need. Amazing!

Money was raised in school with sales and events such as nail painting and raffles. Many members of the Sixth Form (and staff!) dressed up to support the cause. We are also grateful to RunWales for providing charity spaces for our staff and sixth formers to complete a sponsored Conwy half marathon. Students also raised money on their own by arranging sponsored activities, dedicating their free time to charity.

One such student was Riley in Year 7, who cycled an incredible 50km to raise money. A lot of work and a lot of dedication at a young age! Riley shared some thoughts on his impressive accomplishment, saying “I’ve made a big effort” to raise money this year, “my parents are both really proud of me”. “I’ve been cycling for a long time”, he said, which is why it came as a natural choice for a fundraiser. Riley said he’d “try and go for two” and raise money again next year.

Another one of our ‘Arwyr Aberconwy’ fundraising superstars is Anelise in Year 9, who has raised the most of any individual student over the past five years. She said “I feel brilliant because I have impacted so many children’s lives”. An excellent ongoing effort!

Over the past few years we have had students host sponsored quizzes and ‘Bongos Bingo’ , organise talent shows and even cycle up Snowdon.

We are deeply pleased with what the school community has achieved here, and proud to have had such a positive impact on the lives of so many children and students.
