We are delighted to celebrate the exceptional achievements of our pupils in this year’s UK Mathematics Trust (UKMT) Junior Maths Challenge and Junior Kangaroo competitions.
Last month, 40 students from Years 7 and 8 took part in the UKMT Junior Maths Challenge, a national competition designed to encourage mathematical reasoning, problem-solving and logical thinking. The challenge attracts thousands of students from across the UK, making our students’ success particularly impressive.
A number of our students were recognised for their excellent performances and were awarded certificates at different levels:
The three Gold Awards represent a record achievement for Ysgol Aberconwy and are a testament to the hard work, dedication and mathematical talent of our students.
Following their outstanding performances in the Junior Maths Challenge, Ben and Henry qualified for the prestigious UKMT Junior Kangaroo, a national follow-on competition reserved for the highest-scoring students in the country.

We are thrilled to share that both pupils continued their success at this elite level. Ben achieved a Silver Award, an excellent accomplishment against some of the strongest young mathematicians in the UK.
A particularly special congratulations goes to Henry, who achieved a Gold Award in the Junior Kangaroo. This is an extraordinary achievement that places Henry among the very highest-performing young mathematicians in the country. Earning a Gold Award at this level requires exceptional mathematical ability, outstanding problem-solving skills and remarkable dedication.
These results are a tremendous achievement for both students and for Ysgol Aberconwy as a whole. We are incredibly proud of everyone who took part in the competitions and would like to congratulate Ben and Henry on their outstanding success. Their achievements reflect not only their own hard work and determination but also the strength of mathematics teaching and learning across the school.
