In December, Ysgol Aberconwy was delighted to welcome a visiting teacher from Germany as part of an international teacher exchange programme. Ulli Hukherlyn, an international languages teacher from Albert Schweitzer Gymnasium in Sömmerda, central Germany, spent three weeks based at our school, sharing his expertise and gaining insight into the Welsh education system.
At his home school, Ulli teaches English and French. During his visit, he worked closely with the Languages Department at Ysgol Aberconwy and also spent time collaborating with colleagues in the Languages Department at Ysgol John Bright. Through lesson observations, joint activities and professional discussions, he exchanged ideas on teaching and learning and explored different approaches to modern foreign languages in Wales.
Ulli quickly became an active and valued member of our school community. While most of his time was spent with the languages teams, he also visited a range of other departments across Ysgol Aberconwy. This allowed him to gain a broader understanding of the Welsh education system and to reflect on how it differs from the education system in Germany.
We greatly enjoyed hosting Ulli and valued the professional exchange of ideas and experiences that his visit provided. Opportunities such as this enrich both staff and pupils and help to strengthen our international links, and we look forward to developing similar partnerships in the future.
