This week, Ysgol Aberconwy’s Equality and Diversity ambassadors have been busy with their cake trays! On Thursday, they held a bake sale in support of Welsh Women’s Aid’s ‘Big Give’ campaign. They were able to raise over £100 for the cause.

The sale included doughnuts and cupcakes, with a ‘guess the number of sweets in the jar’ game. The winning guess came from Charlotte in Year Nine, who got closest to the true number of 503 with her guess of 546. She was happy to walk away as the winner!

Welsh Women’s Aid is doubling donations that come in from now until noon on the 15th of October, which means the hard work of our students will go even further. This means the money we donated turned into £263.25!

The Big Give is aiming to address and fight back against misogyny affecting young people today. While it is shocking to see how issues emerging from misogyny are on the rise, we are proud that Aberconwy students want to be part of making the world a better place for themselves and their peers. We encourage them to keep thinking about creating positive change that will help young women and men around the country, and the world.

This academic year, we’re hoping to invite more input from parents on the subject of tackling sexism in schools and on social media. We will have more information to come as plans develop.
More information on the charity campaign is available on Welsh Women’s Aid’s website.
