Conwy Schools Golfing Champions

On Wednesday 25th June, Conwy Golf Club, kindly hosted the first Conwy Schools Golf Championship for many years. This allowed 30+ young golfers from across the counties schools to compete on the prestigious course. Boys and Girls competed in a Gross and Stableford format through 18-holes of gruelling links golf, in glorious sunshine and only a slight breeze.

Ysgol Aberconwy students had incredible success on the day with Year 9 students Amy Brown and Culhwch Devereux being crowned, Gross County champions with rounds of 83 and 87 respectively. Amy also enjoyed double success, winning the girls Stableford competition with a score of 41 points.

Overall in the boys competitions, Aberconwy recorded 6 of the top 9 golfers in the Gross format, with Sion Williams (Y13) and Luca Williams (Y9) finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively.

This means that 7 Aberconwy golfers qualified from the event and will go on to compete in the Eryri Schools Golf Championship in Caernarfon on Thursday 10th July. We wish them all the best of luck in their endeavours at this event!

This golfing event was organised by Mr Bennett, Head of PE at Ysgol Aberconwy. He offered his heartfelt thanks to Matt Parsley, General Manager at Conwy Golf Club and all the staff at the club for allowing the use of their immaculate course and for being so incredibly welcoming and supportive of the competition, which will help develop the future of golf within the county.

He said, “I hope that the partnership between the Conwy Schools PE Association and Conwy Golf Club will continue over the coming years. We look forward to the prospect of growing this event and developing sponsorship opportunities in the future, to help the association support the club going forward. It’s fantastic to be able to offer this sort of opportunity to Conwy’s young golfers and we look forward to seeing how it develops!”
