A Memorable Trip to Real Madrid

During the Easter holiday, in the early hours of the morning, a group of excited students and staff from Ysgol Aberconwy embarked on a once-in-a-lifetime, football filled trip to Madrid, Spain. Following a smooth flight, the group were met with a warm welcome by their local representative. After a good lunch, the students had the opportunity to explore the vibrant Spanish capital, setting the stage for an incredible few days ahead.

The first major highlight of the trip was a behind-the-scenes tour of the stunning Civitas Metropolitano Stadium, home of the iconic Atlético Madrid. Students experienced the atmosphere of this monumental venue first-hand, including a walk pitch-side that left them in awe. They explored the club’s museum, showcasing a rich history filled with trophies and accolades, and browsed the official merchandise store, purchasing souvenirs to take home. After an exhilarating day, the students settled into their hotel, eager to embrace the adventures that lay ahead.

On the second day students enjoyed a hearty breakfast, fuelling them for the exciting day at Real Madrid’s renowned training facility in Valdebebas. Clad in official Real Madrid kits, the Ysgol Aberconwy students engaged in a professional training session led by esteemed Real Madrid coaches. They honed essential footballing skills and tactics that are crucial at the highest level of the game. Later that day, the team faced Club Deportivo Puebla in their first international match. Despite the outcome not being in their favour, the vibrant spirit of the team shone through as they were energetically supported by their fellow classmates, showcasing the camaraderie and enthusiasm that sports cultivate.

Day three was equally packed with excitement as the students returned to Valdebebas for two high-intensity training sessions. These focused on movement and spatial awareness—key elements in a player’s development. Following their rigorous training, students visited the legendary Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, where they took part in a captivating tour that included a glimpse of the club museum, a display of historic trophies, and insights into cutting-edge pitch technology which highlighted Real Madrid’s commitment to excellence.

The fourth day brought more competitive experiences, as two teams from Ysgol Aberconwy played against local clubs EMF Villarejo and C.D. Recio Leganes. Though the results were not what they had hoped for, the matches provided invaluable experiences and a chance to test their skills against international opponents. A lively football tournament took place at the hotel later, where students showed off their competitive spirit, followed by an exciting evening at Civitas Metropolitano Stadium, watching Atlético Madrid compete against Real Valladolid in a thrilling LaLiga fixture.

The final day allowed for a leisurely morning, as students roamed the city centre of Madrid, indulging in delicious ice cream before making their way to the airport.

This unforgettable trip offered Ysgol Aberconwy students an insight into elite-level football, invaluable international playing experience, and an array of memories that will certainly last a lifetime. Through this adventure, students developed not only their footballing skills but also friendships and resilience, embodying the true spirit of teamwork and sportsmanship.
