Girlguide Rangers Gain Op Bang Award

Congratulations to Jas (year 10), Kia (year 10), Caitlin (year 10), Charlotte (year 11) and Kaitlin (year 10) who are Ysgol Aberconwy students and Girlguide Rangers that were recently awarded a 3rd place ‘Op Bang Challenge’ award for their hard work renovating a small memorial garden in Glan Conwy ahead of Remembrance Sunday.

The five rangers cleared and replanted the community memorial garden, outside the village Church House, with red and purple flowers to represent all the people and animals that have lost their lives in wars and conflicts. Caitlin also put battery operated lights around it which she made sure were on during the Remembrance period.

North Wales Police and North Wales Fire and Rescue Service launch ‘Operation Bang’ in the run up to Halloween and Bonfire Night to try to reduce incidents of anti-social behaviour. This includes a competition, the ‘Op Bang Challenge’, which offers young people across North Wales the chance to give back to their community to be in with a chance of winning some prizes for themselves or a club. As a result, the 1st Glan Conwy Rangers have been awarded a 3rd place prize of £250 for their efforts, which will go towards a trip to Manchester in September where the rangers will take part in a giant ‘Monopoly Run’.
