Nutrition Training

On Wednesday, 5th May, the SNAG group attended Nutrition Training lead by Nia Rees Williams, Dietician and Appetite for Life Facilitator for Conwy Education Department.

Students were greeted with life size, realistic looking foods stimulating the visual and kinaesthetic senses.  There was also the sugar lumps.  Could you eat 10 sugar lumps in one go?  No?  Are you sure?  That is how many you find in a 500ml bottle of coke.

Did you know that vitamin A helps your vision?  Without it, you could go blind.  Most vitamins cannot be stored in your body so you need to certain foods (like fruit and vegetables) everyday to keep your body functioning healthily.  These are just some of the facts the students learnt in their course.

“It was good.  We learnt about different kinds of vitamins and fibre and how to live healthily,” says Ella Burrows-Selby.

What the students liked most about the training was that they were not told what they can and cannot eat.  Nia taught them about how food affects the body but at the end of the day, the choice is still theirs.  After receiving the information, the SNAG group choose the healthier option.
